How's this for a gritty reboot:

On the floating isles of Preria there live two races: the dog-like Canins, who are the majority, and the cat-like Felins, who are the minority. For centuries, these two races have lived in mutual fear and hatred of each other. Now, the Felins have rebelled against what they feel to be a repressive Canin regime. Led by a charismatic leader by the name of Alicia von Priss, the Felin Liberation Army seek to overthrow the von Haundt royal family and make Felins the dominant race.

The Royal Prerian Police Force have fought the Felin Liberation Army for quite some time, largely without success. Now, a young, fresh Inspector by the name of Waffel Reibredt is called to help combat this threat to the islands and prevent chaos spreading. However, when he learns that the leader of the Felin rebels is his childhood friend Alicia, he begins to have second thoughts.

Meanwhile, Cyan von Garlandt, Commander of the Guardians of the Royal House of von Haundt, is motivated solely by his duty and honour towards the royal house. If Canins must die so that the Felins will be quiet, so be it.

King Bertand von Haundt has suddenly been taken ill, and his daughter, Princess Theria, has become regent. Even in the wake of seeing Canin after Canin die senselessly, she will not show even a bit of weakness as she leads her kingdom through this unnecessary war.

Furthermore, a Felin merchant named Fühle Reichardt has been suspected by the Police Force of illegally selling weapons to the Felin Liberation Army. In fact, there are some rumours that he plans to have himself crowned King...

Alicia von Priss, and her two adopted sisters, Stare and Flare, are united in their mutual hatred of Canins, however, when Alicia sees Waffel for the first time in years, she begins to wonder if not all Canins are bad after all....

There! What do you think? Now that's an anime/game I'd like to watch/play!
